Baycation

We didn't travel this summer. Instead, we had a new, and safe, deck built. So . . . had a four-day "Baycation" instead. Here are some photo highlights:

  1. After looking at your "Baycation" pictures, I too would have asked if you needed the senior discount. Tina on the other hand, would be offered the student price.

As I get older and fatter, I avoid cameras at all costs.

I share your frustration with "it's all good" but the one that drives me nuts is "my bad." This is usually said right after someone does something wrong right in front of me. My standard reply is "I know whose "bad" it was. I just watched you do it."

  2. Though it would seem to qualify as an annoying idiom, "my bad" has generally doesn't bother me as long as it's a form of apology, an expression that takes responsibility, instead of some sort of quick, insincere hipsterism meant to deflect any serious discussion of wtf happenned.

    I like "wtf," too.

  3. I hate all text message, instant message, and email abbreviations (wtf, omg, lol, etc.). The whole medium has been the bane of competent writing skills. I know this makes me a "curmudgeon" but I refuse to budge. All my texts and emails use full words, proper capitalization and punctuation, and correct spelling. My kids mock me when I sarcastically correct their texts and emails or they respond with LOL, LMAO, or ROFLMAO.

  4. I think kids code switch. My students use all the abbrevs in text and email, but they're papers aren't corrupted by them.

Time and place. Different languages for different locations.
